Last week, Bangladeshi Country Manager Saifullah Khawaja spoke to a crowd of 200 at the Fabric Apparel Clothing Technology Summit (FACTS). Khawaja discussed WRAP’s 12 Principles and educated attendees on WRAP’s certification process.
Khawaja provided a history of social compliance programs and the evolution of WRAP, along with program features and benefits. Additionally, Khawaja explained to attendees what brands expect from factories nowadays.
Khawaja’s speech was part of the Knowledge Seminar Series III, held in partnership with Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the German development agency. The summit is part of the 11th Annual GARMENTECH Bangladesh, which was held January 12-15 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Dhaka.
Much of GARMENTECH Bangladesh and the corresponding seminar series focused on the growth of the Bangladeshi textile export sector and the corresponding challenges faced by exporters. For example, during Khawaja’s question-and-answer period, many attendees expressed the problems they face transferring funds from Bangladesh to the United States.
Following the speech, numerous attendees expressed interest in WRAP certification, and we’re thrilled to see our certification program continue to grow in Bangladesh.
